Annual Returns

Under ALA Bylaw 2.01.6 and Regulation 16.01 all members are to send a copy of their annual return to the ALA. If  you have not sent in a copy of your annual return filed since the last ALA AGM in November, 2024, you should email a copy of it to annualreturn@albertalacrosse.com. If you are not sure, given recent changes in staffing and procedures at the ALA office, our recommendation is to simply send it in again to this email address as they will all be automatically stored and logged.

The form to complete a Societies Act annual return can be found here.
Service Alberta now recommends that these are submitted by email to
cr.npcompliance@gov.ab.ca  (no need to go to a registries office to complete this compliance any longer). Once the annual return is filed, you receive a proof of filing by email, however the ALA requires the same annual return sent to Service Alberta as the proof of filing does not contain the complete list of directors. Please send the ALA the form that is filled out and sent to Service Alberta. It should be as simple as forwarding the email sent to Service Alberta to annualreturn@albertalacrosse.com

Outstanding Fees

Members with outstanding fees owing to the ALA may be considered not in good standing. We have a very strong record of payment by our clubs, but if you are having troubles or are not sure about your invoice contact Brent Robinson or finance@albertalacrosse.com and we will review the situation and work to a solution as much as possible.

Proxy Votes

Voting Members of the ALA are defined in the bylaws as “any amateur lacrosse team within the boundaries of the ALA represented by its’ registered Head Coach”. Typically not all coaches attend the AGM, but the ALA bylaws and regulations permit those coaches to create a proxy to allow their vote to be cast by someone else in attendance, typically the President or another executive of their club.

The ALA is using an electronic proxy form this year.
The
form can be found here.
* If you're a club executive or administrator looking to know which coaches have completed proxies, contact the Executive Director, Brent Robinson.

* It is important that clubs collect as many proxies as possible, assigning their vote to someone attending the AGM, to help ensure we meet quorum as required under the Bylaws.  (51% of the Members).

RSVPs and Development Weekend

A reminder for everyone attending the AGM and Development Weekend to please RSVP here. This will allow us to ensure that we have enough food ready and to allocate space amongst our Development Weekend sessions.
We are very excited for our Development Session this year. We will be distributing more details on the speakers and facilitators for all the sessions, including the Friday night which will be a fun and interactive social event for everyone.

Keynote Speaker

The keynote speaker for the weekend will be Chandra Crawford.

Chandra is a seasoned speaker, Olympic Gold Medalist and 3 x Olympian in Cross Country Skiing born and raised in Canmore, Alberta. She completed her MBA at the University of Calgary, founded a national charity called "Fast and Female" in 2005, and is a mother of 4.

With great vulnerability and humility, Chandra shares not only stories of her Olympic win in 2006, but also the lows of her life such as the loss of her younger brother to addictions and her own struggles with eating disorders. You’ll laugh and cry with this big-hearted speaker. Chandra’s purpose is to share her high-vibe energy and growth mindset to help people turn their challenges into opportunities.

Awards Banquet

The Saturday evening will be capped off with the ALA Awards Banquet featuring the awarding of the James McFall Award and Ekke Loo Award. These awards recognize service and commitment to the game of lacrosse in Alberta. We hope that many of you will attend to celebrate the recipients who reflect the highest ideals of our game.

The ALA Development Weekend is a great opportunity to meet others who are volunteering in lacrosse to share stories, experiences and learn from each other. We hope to see many of you there!
