Girls Try-It Camps

The Girls Try-It Camp initiative proved to be a major success, generating strong engagement from communities across the province. These sessions brought together athletes of all experience levels in a fun, supportive environment where they could learn the game, build confidence, and connect with others. The overwhelming interest and participation underscore the growing momentum behind girls' box lacrosse and the importance of creating accessible entry points into the sport.

We look forward to building on this momentum through future initiatives that continue to share the love of the game and increase the visibility of girls' box lacrosse across the province.

If you know someone interested in registering to play this season, it’s not too late—check with your local club for registration information.

The Technical Team is pleased to bring back “Teed Up,” a virtual professional development series for ALA coaches, managers, and parents. This series will feature four webinars covering a range of topics, each designed to provide fundamental, technical, and tactical insights into the game. Every session will also include an interactive Q&A, giving participants the chance to engage directly and ask questions.

Lacrosse Literacy

This year, we proudly completed 199 school visits across the province through our Lacrosse Literacy in Schools programming—one of our most impactful years to date.

The program continues to bring lacrosse directly into classrooms and gymnasiums across Alberta, introducing students to the game in a fun, accessible, and inclusive way. Designed to support physical literacy and align with school-based learning outcomes, Lacrosse Literacy helps students develop fundamental movement skills while also experiencing the history, culture, and excitement of Canada’s national sport.

Across every visit, the response has been outstanding. Students were highly engaged from start to finish, and teachers consistently shared how much they valued the program as a dynamic and meaningful addition to their physical education curriculum. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive—students love it, teachers love it, and schools are eager to continue participating.

A key highlight this year has been our continued partnership with the Calgary Roughnecks, who generously supported the initiative by donating tickets to regular-season games for participating students and providing funding. This opportunity helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional sport, giving students a chance to experience lacrosse at the highest level and creating lasting memories for young fans across the province.

We are also proud to collaborate with the City of Calgary, including the Sports Hub Program and All Sport One Day Calgary, strengthening our shared commitment to increasing youth access to sport and physical activity opportunities.

As we look ahead, we remain focused on growth and new development opportunities, including a deeper expansion of programming into the Edmonton region in the upcoming school year. With strong partnerships and growing demand, Lacrosse Literacy continues to build momentum—introducing more students to the game and inspiring the next generation of players across Alberta.

Presidents Cup

August 30 – September 5, 2026

The Presidents Cup, Canada’s national Senior B box lacrosse championship, is coming to Alberta this August 30 – September 5, 2026, hosted by the Miners in Edmonton. This prestigious event brings together the top Senior B teams from across the country to compete for the national title, showcasing high-level competition and passion for the game.

The Presidents Cup is held in honour of the Canadian Lacrosse Association President and recognizes the contributions of all past Presidents of the CLA. The original trophy, a beautiful silver cup donated in September 1964 by Mr. K.G. Thompson, was retired to the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in New Westminster, BC, in the early 1980s. The current trophy commemorates the history of leadership within the CLA, listing past Presidents of the Association as well as the Chair of the Board of Directors under its current structure.

Hosting the Presidents Cup is a significant moment for lacrosse in Alberta, bringing top talent to Edmonton and giving the local community a front-row seat to elite Senior B competition. It’s more than just a tournament—it’s a celebration of the sport’s history, leadership, and continued growth.

ALA’s Insurance Program

ALA’s insurance program helps ensure that players, coaches, officials, and volunteers can participate in lacrosse with confidence. Coverage is in place to support members in the event of accidents or injuries and to provide important liability protection for sanctioned activities. This program is a key part of creating a safe and secure environment across all levels of the game. Members are encouraged to review the full details of their coverage, including what is included, limitations, and how to submit a claim, by visiting the ALA Insurance.
