Darrel Knight

Darrel began coaching lacrosse with the Axemen in 2014 as an Assistant Coach in U11 and have continued as either a Head Coach or an Assistant through all levels of Minor Lacrosse and now serving as the Head Coach for the Axemen Junior Team. As a coach with the Axemen I was a part of 2 Provincial Champions and a Provincial Silver Medal Team as well as 3 Calgary and District Lacrosse Association (CDLA) Champions.

Outside of the Axemen organization, Darrel was a member of the Zone 3 Coaching staff for the 2018 Alberta Summer Games where the team won gold. Darrel has also been selected twice by the Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta (ISCA) as Head Coach for Team Alberta Lacrosse for the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG 2020 and 2023). The 2023 Games saw the first medal being won by Team Alberta since the NAIG began (Bronze).

Darrel prides himself in finding an opportunity for all athletes to demonstrate their best skill and to grow in at least one other. His hope is that every player walks away from the team feeling accomplished and that they have grown as an athlete and as a young adult. Sport teaches us many quality skills that young adults need to succeed in their lives, Darrel’s hope is that he can contribute to that growth! He is most proud when players bound as a family and look to give back to the sport because of their time on teams that he has coached.
